It is said that a few years ago, new hires in the people analytics department at Google received laptop stickers with the slogan: “We have charts and graphs to back us up”. Presumably, this was to ward off skepticism around the field, as many feared the idea of reducing people to mere numbers.
The times have changed – and how! HR professionals have always collected data on employees, but from suspecting the usefulness of understanding and managing the workforce basis this data mining, more than 70% of companies now consider this to be a priority. And, data from IBM suggests that over 20% of companies are applying predictive analytics to address their people issues.
