When you first become a resident of the United States, you do not lose your right to be considered a permanent resident until you have settled into a domicile in one of the fifty states or until you have been a resident for two years. The fact is that even if you have reached the age of four years, you can still be considered a permanent resident for political purposes, as long as you have not become a dependent of another for six months. However, it is always recommended that children of United States citizens who wish to become permanent residents present their parental or dependent consent for this status, or they can withdraw it at any time.
